Wojtek Starakiewicz

Coach & Founder, ROGace

What do you love about tennis?

I love the universal appeal of tennis and the hundreds of different combinations of traits that can propel you forward. Tennis gives everyone an equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of their biological, physiological, mental or any other type of factors. Discipline and drive are the true keys to success in tennis, and they are within everyone’s reach.

What do you hope kids take away from their classes with you?

Having a chance to work with children is an honor and a privilege. My goal is to be a positive influence in their lives – encouraging them to grow up as principled members of our society who appreciate the value of working hard, learning new skills, living a healthy lifestyle, and aiming to be the best version of themselves in everything they do.

About Wojtek:

Wojtek Starakiewicz was born and raised in Poland and started playing tennis at the age of 6. Before coming to the US, Starakiewicz played in 15 different countries and in over 30 professional tournaments throughout his career. He won the Polish Junior National Championships in the U18 in both singles and doubles, and reached 426 in the ITF Juniors, 1,489 singles and 920 doubles in ATP World rankings.

After playing on the pro-circuit, Starakiewicz was recruited by Lee Nickel, the current UB Men’s Head Coach. Starakiewicz became a top player for the Bulls between 2009 – 2012 and became the first UB player to be ranked 103 in the country.

After graduating from UB, Wojtek moved to NYC to work at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy where he became the Director of U10 Tennis, Senior Assistant Director of JMTA and Regional Director of U10 for Sportime Tennis Clubs.

During his time at the Academy, Starakiewicz completed the highest PTR Certificate of Master Tennis Junior Development. Starakiewicz also had the opportunity to work with industry renowned specialists like Mike Barrell and Ann Pankhurst, to name a few.

Wojtek lives with his wife Denise in East Aurora, NY and proudly calls it home.
